About Weh
About Weh
Weh is a fondom in the Fungom Sub-Division of Menchum Division, in the North West Region of Cameroon, about 8 kilometres north-east of Wum, the divisional capital. It is a cultural, economic and traditional hub of the Grassfields region.
Weh is a traditional chiefdom led by the Fon, who rules alongside a council of elders, notables and queen mothers. Today the Fon is His Royal Highness Fon Mbuh II. Weh people at home and abroad proudly call their village the “Weh Republic” – a republic inside a republic – a sign of the community pride and unique cultural identity that bind us together.
Our mother tongue is Weh, a Grassfields Bantu language and a cornerstone of who we are; Cameroonian Pidgin English is widely spoken too. Life is built around extended families, quarters and active community development associations.
Weh has a long history of self-help. One proud milestone is the Weh Water Project, completed in 1978, a community-led effort that solved a serious water and health challenge.
The fertile soil of the Menchum plateau supports farming – plantains, yams, cassava, maize and beans, with palm oil and coffee as cash crops – and the Weh Market is the centre of local trade.
This website and app exist to keep every son and daughter of Weh, at home and in the diaspora, connected: through contributions, development projects, Weh Radio and our branches around the world.

Coronation Message – A New Dawn for the People of Weh
His Royal Highness Fon Mbuh II
“The Day Has Dawned”
Today marks a new dawn for Weh. With gratitude to God and respect for our ancestors, I embrace this sacred responsibility as Fon of Weh.
May this reign be guided by wisdom, peace, unity, and love for our people. Let us stand together, preserve our rich cultural heritage, and work towards a brighter future for generations to come.
One people, one culture, one unity.
— Fon Mbuh II, Royal Fon of Weh
